Mr. Jimoh Bashir, the contributing editor for News Hub Magazine has just won the chairmanship seat for the Kwara state chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
The election which coincided with the North Central caucus meeting of the body took place at the indoors conference hall of the Kwara state stadium, Ilorin.
Bashir who is also the sports editor of the state owned The Herald newspaper got majority of the votes to clinch an overwhelming victory.
Other members of the newly elected Sports Writers Association of Nigeria in the state are Toyin Saheed, vice chairman; Olayinka Owolewa, Secretary; assistant secretary, Ayodeji Ismail; financial secretary, Nusirat Popoola; treasurer, Abdulrasheed Okiki.
In his acceptance speech, Bashir thanked members of the past administrations for laying a solid foundation for the association to thrive in the state.
He however decried the low turnout of voters noting that about 50 members voted in the last election. He pledged that his administration will embark on massive sensitisation of members on the need to be financial members so as to vote and be voted for in subsequent elections.
The new chairman assured that his administration will focus on completion of the ongoing secretariat of SWAN in the state and called for the support of all stakeholders.
The election was witnessed by stakeholders in the sports industry in the state. Also, chairmen and secretaries of the Kogi, Nasarawa, Jos, Benue and other north central zone led by the National Vice President of the Association in charge of the North central zone, Malam Danmusa Mohammed.
Earlier in his handover speech, the immediate past chairman of the association, Abdulwaheed Bibire had enumerated the achievements of his team and called on the incoming executive members to build on the legacies of his administration.
