Celebrated Ilorin blue eyed lady, Risikat Abdulaziz and a nine-year-old girl, Ali Adedoyin, yesterday joined other women in benefiting from an empowerment package of the Kwara state First Lady through her Ajike People’s Support Centre.
The ceremony which held on Friday at the Government House, Ilorin was witnessed by top government functionaries.
Olufolake AbdulRazaq who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Deborah Aremu, said the gesture was to empower women and girls of school age so as to make them more economically independent.
She noted that women were the backbone of the family and society and thus needed to be empowered to alleviate poverty.
The First Lady also noted that the objective of the programme is to empower women through skills acquisition so that they could have financial literacy.
Also speaking at the event, the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mrs. Johanna Kolo, said the present administration should be appreciated for its programmes and policies which were aimed at improving the living standards of women in the state.
She urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the knowledge and skills acquired from the training.
In an interview with newsmen, Risikat Abdulaziz appreciated the First Lady for the opportunity. She disclosed that adding make-up to her business will go a long way in providing for her family.
Also, in her appreciation, Ali Adedoyin, thanked the Governor’s wife and her Ajike People’s Support Centre for the kind gesture. She said that through the skill she had acquired, she would generate income to assist her family.
News Hub Mag! reports that the beneficiaries had undergone one-week training before the starter kits were given to them.
