As the nationwide protest for a total reform of the Police Force, especially an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has hailed the Nigerian youths for protesting against brutality allegdly perpetrated by the rogue squad.
The Governor who stated this in a special broadcast to the youths across the country on Tuesday, described their action as patriotic.
The Governor also commended President Muhammad Buhari and the Inspector General of Police, (IG), Muhammed Adamu, for promptly heeding the clarion call to disband the notorious Special Anti Robbery Squad, (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force.
He however regretted that, some reactionary forces have taken advantage of the genuine protests by the youths and hijacked the proceedings, despite the fact that the demand to disband SARS has been heeded to by the Inspector General of Police on the orders of the President.
Bello who eulogized the youths for their sense of patriotism and nationalism, advised them to disregard the infiltrators who are only out for mischief to create chaos and confusion.
He alleged that the spillover of the ‘EndSARS’ protests despite government heeding the demand of people is being instigated, by some people with ulterior motives other than police brutality, to unleash their hate and disregard for constituted authority.
The Governor who confirmed that the officers and men of the disbanded police outfit, SARS, have been moved to Abuja, disclosed that the entire police force will be reformed soon.
He maintained that the Buhari administration is a respecter of due process, rule of law and human rights and therefore assured the youths that their interests will always be protected and genuine demands accepted, adding that the statements made by the President were sincere and covenant, which will be implemented despite administrative bottle necks
Bello also thanked the Nigerians especially the youths who he referred to as his constituency, for their gallantry, steadfastness and loyalty, assuring that the nation has a lot in stock for them.
