2020 TB Day: Kwara’s First Lady seeks eradication, says diagnosis, treatment free

From Debra Ajulo, Ilorin

The First lady of Kwara State, Dr. (Mrs.) Olufolake AbdulRazaq on Tuesday charged stakeholders in the health sector to intensify efforts towards curbing the spread of Tuberculosis and other chronic diseases.

Dr AbdulRazaq gave the charge in commemoration of the 2020 World TB Day.

The wife of the Governor also commended the Kwara TB team for their resilience and efforts over the years and urged them to do more towards integrating TB services and maternal and child care as new cases of babies having TB infection is worrisome.

“It is my duty as the TB champion of the state to ensure effective diagnosis and treatment of TB in the state. Anyone who is feeling ill is enjoined to visit the state TB centre where diagnosis and treatment is free.

“When you notice symptoms such as weight loss, night sweats and fever or any cough that has persisted for more than two weeks should be reported to the State TB centre immediately.

“Let us join hands to eradicate TB in Kwara,” she urged.

News Hub Mag! reports that World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated every March 24, and the theme for the 2020 edition is “It’s time to End TB!”

News Hub Mag! recalls that earlier in the year the First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Buhari named Mrs Olufolake AbdulRazaq as Kwara TB champion.

This was in recognition of her efforts in the Advocacy/war against Tuberculosis in the state.
