The General Manager of Ekiti Sports Council, Deji Samo, says his athletes results at the just-ended 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) in Benin is a testament on the need for continuous preparations towards improving on the athletes’ current level for future sports activities.
Samo told newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Friday that he was more bothered about the athletes’ performance and prospects in their respective sports.
The Ekiti contingent to the festival returned home with 13 medals made up of two gold, three silver and eight Bronze medals.
The General Manager however said the results showed the need for continuous preparations towards improving on the athletes’ current level for future sports activities.
In his words, “It is imperative that athletes continue to train towards improving on their ‘Edo 2020’ record in Delta which will host the 21st NSF.
“We however commend the athletes for their improved performance and also extol their handlers for their unrelenting hard work towards ensuring a successful outing.
“But we are not where we want to be, even though we are obviously not where we were, considering the number of medals won this time around as opposed to those of the previous events.
“We appreciate the work done by the coaches and members of staff who prepared the athletes.
“We also congratulate the athletes for their improved performance in the 2020 edition.”
