No fewer than 10 members of the Federation of Women Lawyer, (FIDA), Kwara state chapter were at the Upper Area Court 1 on Wednesday in defense of one Vincent Fadunmade whose seven-year-old daughter was allegedly sexually molested by her teacher, Akorede Hammed, in the school toilet of His Grace Group of School, located in Ilorin the Kwara State capital.
Fadunmade, according to police report, was dragged to court on the allegations that he threatened to bring down the school if the management fails to reduce its levies.
He was said to have also threatened to kill the founders of the institution, Apostle Joshua Adekanye and his wife, Mrs. Toyin if they dare confront him.
Fadumade, among several allegations against him, was accused of being violent and on several occasions, attempted to assault staff of the school.
Barrister Olasehinde Adeseko, in his submission, prayed the court to remand the defendant in correctional Service centre until his counsel, come formally for his bail.
Reacting, the defendant’s lead counsel, Sofiat Usman, a member of the Federation of Women Lawyer, (FIDA) urged the court to discountenance the submission of his colleague saying remanding Fadunmade will amount to pre-trial punishment.
She urged the court to grant the defendant bail in liberal terms saying he will provide reliable sureties and will adhered to the rule of the Court.
The Upper Area Court 1, which was presided over by Justice Sunday Adeniyi, overruled the submission of the claimant counsel, saying that the bail application is at the discretion of the Court and it may be either oral or written.
He therefore admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum while the matter was adjourned to 22nd of April.
News Hub Mag! recalls, that the defendant’s 7-year-old daughter was allegedly molested by her teacher, one Akorede Ahmed, in the institution toilet during the school hour few weeks ago.
The police report disclosed that the teacher, Akorede, locked up the minor in the toilet, removed her pant and started fingering her vaginal. When the innocent girl resisted the moves the suspect opened the door for her to leave.
The alleged pedophile, Akorede Ahmed, has however been charged to court and remanded pending his trail.
