Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has called on Nigerians to protect their names rather than going after material wealth.
Abdulrazaq made the call last night at the 50th anniversary in the Bar dinner, organised to honour Chief Peter Adebayo Olorunnisola (SAN) by his children in Ilorin, the state capital.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr. Kayode Alabi, the governor who congratulated and applauded the celebrant’s integrity, reiterated his respect for him and emphasised how Olorunnisola and the late Mr. Ijaodola (another legal luminary) had long been household names in the legal profession in the state.
He commended Olorunnisola for remaining upright despite the temptations of losing dignity in his field, calling on the people to emulate some of his sterling qualities, which are discipline and uprightness.
“When you lose your culture, you lose everything … your dad may not have private jet but he has something today, his name,” the governor told the children of the celebrant.
He harped on the need to love one another, adding that religious tolerance is very necessary among the people for peace to reign and for the government to make any meaningful development in the state.
Family members, friends and colleagues who spoke on the occasion poured encomiums on the celebrant, describing him as humble, upright, loving, caring, dedicated and a committed man of the people.
Earlier in his speech, Olorunnisola had appreciated Abdulrasaq, Alabi and all the guests for the honour done him.
While praying and expressing the belief that the present administration would not fail, he charged the people to cooperate with the government in the task of moving the state to greater heights.
Some of the dignitaries present on the occasion are Justice Ayo Salami (rtd), former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muhammad Koro, traditional rulers, as well as members of the Bar and the Bench.
