The Kwara State government weekend reaffirmed its interest and unwavering commitment to the promotion, preservation and sustenance of the diverse and rich cultural heritage of the people of the State.
The State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq stated this at this year’s Awon Mass Wedding Cultural Festival held at Shao in Moro Local Government Area of the State.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, Governor Abdulrazaq said these festivals include but not limited to the Awon Mass Wedding, Ilorin Emirate Durbar, Patigi Regatta and Gani Festival.
The Governor assured the people of the State government’s support and contributions to cultural activities in all parts of the state especially as from the year 2020.
He explained that the gesture is in a bid to encourage the celebration of the state cultural activities and showcase same to the world.
AbdulRazaq noted that the Mass Wedding has drawn the attention to the fact that the State has diverse and rich cultural heritage worthy of emulation.
The Governor added “I heartily congratulate his Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr Bamidele Alabi Adegbite, the Ohoro of Shao and the good people of Shao committee on this special day to mark the mass wedding ceremony of their daughters. I specifically congratulate the brides and grooms of today as well as their parents and guardians on this historic and joyous day”.
The Chairman, Local Organizing Committee of the Festival, Elder Abel Awonsola Adewole appreciated Governor AbdulRazaq for having the festival as one of the few festivals listed for Cultural and Tourism Development.
Elder Adewole also expressed gratitude to the government for placing Shao township road on the tender list for construction.
He appealed to the State government to look into the issue of Chieftaincy in Moro Local Government especially the grading and recognition of Ohoro stool.
