A member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Honourable Rasaq Owolabi has taken the sensitisation against the spread of coronavirus to motor parks, bus stops and the aged at his Share/Oke-Ode constituency.
News Hub Mag! reports that the awareness is coming on the heels of the novel COVID-19 pandemic which has thrown many homes into mourning across the world and Nigeria, inclusive.
In the early hours of Thursday, Owolabi, with his team, stormed the Share motor park of Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) where he enlightened mototorists on the need to ensure social distance as a means of preventing the spread of the pandemic.
He charged members of the union to, as a matter of importance, wash hands frequently and avoid hand shakes and hugging saying adhering to the precautionary measures will mitigate against the spread.
Chairman of the Share branch of the Union, Olanrewaju Olupako, in his remarks, commended the lawmaker for visiting them praying that the disease will not by any means enter the state.
“Honourable has always associated with us, this gladdens our hearts. We have heard about the coronavirus and we will ensure we follow the lay down rules of the state government,” Olupako said.
Also speaking, Disciplinary Officer of the NURTW, Babalomo branch, Abdullah Azeez commended their representative at the House of Assembly for setting the pace for others to follow.
Owolabi, during the sensitisation, shared money, sugar, soap, salt, semovita among other relief items to the community members in his constituency.
Speaking with News Hub Mag! after the exercise, the lawmaker said, “We should join hands to fight the pandemic that has crept into the country all of a sudden. We have recorded over 179 confirmed cases in Nigeria as at today, we don’t pray it exceed that number but we should do our part to stem the tide.”
