Gani festival unites us -Emir of Okuta

.As stakeholders harps on preservation

His Royal Highness, the Emir of Okuta, Ahaji Idris Abubakar Seropetete lll has said the Gani festival unites the people and further cements the relationship between Bartonum-speaking people of Nigeria and those of Benin Republic.

Speaking with News Hub Mag! at the Grand finale of this year’s Gani festival holding in Okuta on Saturday, the Emir noted that there is no other festival that unites the people like Gani festival.

He explained that the flamboyant and colourful festival rekindles the common traditional heritage of theBartonum-speaking people.

Also speaking the traditional Prime Minister of the Emir, Alhaji Abdullah Idris, said the festival is a festival that brings people from all walks of life to see how rich the Bartonum-speaking people are in culture.

He therefore urged the coming generation not to allow this rich cultural heritage to go into extinction after the demise of the present leaders. He noted that it was inherited from their forebears and would be handing it over to their children.

A former commissioner for Information and Communications in Kwara state, Alhaji Mohammed Ishak Sabi said the festival not only brings them together but showcases their rich cultural heritage.

He explained that dancers from both within and without come to celebrate the festival as it is unique to them. He therefore called for a preservation of the festival for future generation.

A retired head of Bartonum unit of Radio Kwara, Alhaji Jubril Sero Aliyu also described the festival as a unique event to celebrate their togetherness. He disclosed that it is a festival that brings all sons and daughters of Bartonu together to remember their cultural heritage.
