House leader, Owolabi, access lockdown order in Kwara North

Following the coronavirus pandemic that has necessitated the lockdown of Kwara State by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, members of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Abubakar Olawoyin and his colleague, Honourable Rasaq Owolabi, on Monday, visited Banni/Adana constituency at Kaima Local Government area of the state.

The visit is aimed at accessing the level of adherence of members of the community to the government’s order of staying at home.

The lawmaker, representing the constituency, Honourable Saidu Baba Ahmed, however, took his colleagues round town to observe the level of adherence to the stay at home directive.

While speaking with News Hub Mag! the lawmakers, Olawoyin and Owolabi, who are also members of the state Technical Committee on Covid-19, expressed satisfaction over the compliance of people to the government directive.

Speaking at the palace of Alhaji Sheikana Baba Ahamed Lamido of Banni, Olawoyin, who is the House Leader at the State Assembly, expressed profound joy over the level of compliance at the community.

In his words, “I’m happy because when I entered the town, I did not see anyone playing football or attending religious activities, this shows that your people are complying to government directive.

“The disease is real, we can see the number of people who have gone for it, why it’s most important to stay at home for now, is that, the virus cannot be seen with our optical eyes and it spreads fast.

“For those who may still be at doubt on whether to comply or not, your office will need to do more work by ensuring that they are convinced.

“The Governor is very pleased with your representative at the House and he has promised to rehabilitate your school, just do your best to remain safe and healthy with your people at this trying times.”

On his part, Chairman, Committee on Health and Environment, Hon. Owolabi, who corroborated the House leader, urged the traditional leader to beef up local security apparatus at the community borders to ensure that foreigners do not have access into Banni.

Owolabi said, “What nations all over the world are battling with over the disease is no joke, the virus spreads so fast and it has no cure, don’t shake hands, avoid huggings and always ascertain that your subjects follow the rules of social distance, with this, we can defeat the deadly pandemic.

Reacting, the monarch appreciated the lawmakers for doing the service of the community members who voted for them.

He expressed optimistic that the virus will soon vanish even as he prayed for God’s protection over everyone in the state and beyond.

“Before now, we’ve been obeying government order and we will continue in that light. We’ve been educating people since the outbreak, everyone sees what is going on around the world, it’s all over not just Kwara, God will protect us,” he prayed.
