Those who were killed in the attack include two Indian Expatriates, two of their police escorts and two drivers of the company who were said to have been ambushed while closing from work on Friday evening.

This attack will be the third incident within the last one week in the area as three police men and five vigilance members were killed in the first incident while the second incident was the gun men invasion of a businessman residence right in the heart of the town where his three children were kidnapped

Confirming the incident, the Police spokesperson, Williams Aya said that the commissioner of Police in the state, Edward Egbuka, has visited the scene for on-the-spot assessment and has equally ordered the deployment of additional Mobile Force and Counter Terrorism Unit to the scene

”Two expatriates, two Company drivers and two Police Inspectors died in the exchange of fire with the hoodlums, before the Area Commander and a detachment of Military in the area reinforced to the scene of incident, and the attackers fled” he said.

Meanwhile, the state government has taken a swift response to the security breaches across the state.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo said that the government had put measures in place to tackle insecurity in the state.

“Kogi is known for distinguishing herself in ensuring security of lives and property of not only the residents, but also of travellers crossing the state.

“In as much as we activate dynamism in our security architecture and strategy, we recognise the fact that some cowards will sometimes try to undermine our efforts.

“What we have always done in such circumstances is to go after the criminals, apprehend them and bring them to justice,’’

“Security has been beefed up around the area and the affected company is cooperating with law enforcement agents to unravel the attackers”

“We urge the people of Ajaokuta and indeed, Kogi in general to go about their normal businesses as we have put in place, stringent security measures to ensure the safety of all,’’ Fanwo said.
