An ICT Expert, Mr. Femi Abidoye has charged Nigerian journalists to make judicious use of Information Communication Technology to facilitate knowledge management in their profession News Hub Mag! reports .
Mr. Abidoye, who is the Managing Director of FEMTECH information technology company, said this while delivering a paper on “Importance of ICT in Journalism” at a Seminar organized by the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
The Managing Director of FEMTECH who was represented by Mr. Simon Ayoade, said a lot is expected from journalists in terms of depth and breadth of knowledge on any issue, pointing out that any journalist who refuses to adopt ICT would find it difficult to cope in this 21st century media world.
Mr. Abidoye noted that the Journalism profession is moving from traditional media to online practice paving way for the adoption of Information Communication Technology.
He therefore explained that online journalists need to cross- check their facts before using them, while media organisations that are adopting ICTs should establish practicable publishing ethics for online users.
To efficiently set up an online knowledge management resource centre, Mr. Abidoye suggested that newsroom should identify the types of knowledge management systems relevant to their news operations such as copy archives and commercial databases.
He stressed the need for journalists to adopt ICT to broaden their knowledge and expand their journalism scope, especially for investigative journalism.
At the end of the presentation, gifts were presented by the company to participants that won the questions segment, with a journalist from Radio Kwara Chapel, Mr. AbdulRosheed Okiki and a student on Industrial Training from Federal Polytechnic Offa attached to Radio Kwara, Muhammad Bello winning ICT tools provided by the company.
