Manager in court for maliciously destroying employer’s trucks

A 32-year-old manager of a haulage company, Emeka Ifemeludike, who maliciously damaged three trucks worth N30 million, belonging to his employer, on Monday appeared in an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The police charged Ifemeludike, whose residential address was not given, five counts bordering on conspiracy, malicious damage and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Kenneth Asibor, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the offence sometime in 2017, at Isheri Osun area of Lagos.

He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace, when he maliciously damaging three Mack Trucks valued N30 million, belonging to the complainant, Nduwilson Resource Ltd., a haulage company.

Asibor also said that the defendant stole some spare parts from the trucks worth N15 million.

He also alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N420, 000 from the company under the guise of paying some bills but did not do so.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 168(d), 287, 314, 339 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate E. O. Ogunkanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

Ogunkanmi adjourned further hearing until Feb. 22.
