Police vow to arrest suspected cultists who played soccer with head of victim

Police authorities in Anambra State have vowed to arrest suspected cultists who killed a member of a rival group and used his head to play soccer.

News Hub Mag! gathered that the incident happened on a premises suspected to be a residence of students of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in Igbariam.

The video which circulated on social media showed a dreadlock-carry young man, who was dragged out of his car and shot at close range.

His head was later brought to a square, where the assailants used it to play soccer.

In his reaction, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, said the command was working hard to track down the culprits.

Ikenga said: “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Tony Olofu, has ordered an investigation on the shooting incident on 25/9/2021 by 4 pm along Igbariam road.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the shooting was as a result of the rival cult clash. Meanwhile, Police Operatives have intensified patrol and surveillance within the area. Further details shall be communicated,” he said.

Meanwhile, two persons were feared dead as unknown gunmen struck Sunday night in Anambra State.

It was gathered that the incident happened in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

Also, three persons were set ablaze by unidentified persons

A source, who spoke with journalists, said the incident took place around 5.45 pm at Afor Nnobi. The situation, the source further said, had created tension in and around the area.

The source said Mr Nelson Omenugha, son of the Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha, was among those attacked.

Omenugha who is a staunch supporter of the former CBN governor’s governorship ambition was said to have escaped, but his Hilux was not spared as it was set ablaze.
