The chief executive officers of two Kwara owned media organisations have pledged to support the successful hosting of the 5th edition of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Media Games 2021.

The General Managers of Kwara State Printing and Publishing Corporation, The Herald Newspapers, Mr. Yomi Adeboye, and Radio Kwara, Malam Kayode Aremu, gave the promise in Ilorin on Tuesday.

Receiving the Main Organising Committee (MOC) in his office, Adeboye said that the Games is an important platform to unwind after a stressful day, adding that he will wholeheartedly support all efforts at having the multi-sports event staged successfully.

“The Herald Newspapers will encourage participation, and support the idea, which I will describe as a good idea,” he said.

He added that his management has prioritized the welfare of the work force, even as he pointed out that supporting the staffers of The Herald to participate will be an extension of that welfare system.

“We are working seriously hard to put The Herald on sound footing, and this will also include training and re-training of the work force, as efforts are on to have a training school where reporters will be trained by the best hands in journalism in Nigeria,” he said.

On his part, Aremu commended SWAN for introducing the Games which, he said, will further strengthen the relationship among journalists and media workers in the state.

He pledged the readiness of Radio Kwara in participating in all the events, even as he also promised to personally take part.

Aremu equally pledged total support of his Corporation to the success of the Games.

Earlier, the Chairman of the 2021 SWAN Media Games Committee, Mallam Bola Mogaji, said that the Games would hold at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, who was represented by the SWAN Chairman, Mr Jimoh Bashir, listed the events to be competed for to include football, scrabble, chess, dart, table tennis, draft, badminton, walk race, volleyball, tennis and ayo.
