In commemoration of the 2021 World Tourism Day, Hotel Owners Association of Nigeria, Kwara state chapter earlier today, Monday, September 27, 2021 presented a billboard campaigning against the use of narcotic drugs and other social vices.
News Hub Mag! reports that the presentation was done in the presence of the Commissioner for Communications, Mrs. Bosede Olaitan Buraimoh; the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kwara State Command, Mr. Ambrose Umoru; General manager, State Tourism Board, Mrs. Bolaji Onietan and other dignitaries.
In his speech at the presentation, President of Hotel owners in the state, Alhaji Dauda Akande, noted that the theme for this year’s celebration -Tourism for inclusive growth- reflects the potential of tourism for all round development and growth.
He therefore called on the state government to develop the tourism sites of the state so as to enhance the generation of internal revenue and create employment opportunities for the youth.
“The unveiling of the billboard campaigning against use of narcotics substances demonstrates the resolve of our members not to allow their hotels and facilities to be used for the use, sales and distribution of narcotic substances,” he stated.
The President also urged the state government to establish a convention and visitors Bureau in the Ministry of Communications pointing out that this will encourage conventions to be held in the state and this will in turn encourage patronage of hotels by the visitors to the state.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Communications, Mrs. Bosede Olaitan Buraimoh, disclosed that the tourism industry is receiving the right attention under the present administration in the state.
According to her, the recent interest in resuscitating and renovating the Regatta Hotel in Patigi, grading of Esie Museum road, building of the Visual Arts Center and many others are testimonies that the present adminstration in the state is passionate about tourism development.
She commended Hotel Owners Association in the state for lending their voice to sensitizing the public on the evils of narcotic drugs and other social vices in the society.
Also speaking on the same vein, the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kwara State Command, Mr. Ambrose Umoru, stressed the need to constantly remind the public of the evils of drug abuse.
He disclosed that the collaboration with hotel owners in the state will further boost the fight against drug abuse in the state and called on other stakeholders in the state to collaborate with the agency.
