KOPAN denies coverage blackout for Police, Kwara Govt.

The Kwara Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (KOPAN) has denied reports on the social media alleging a coverage blackout for the Nigeria Police and the Kwara State Government.

In a release duly signed by the secretary of the association, Opeyemi Adeoti, the association noted that at no time was such decision taken by members of the executive of the association.

The statement reads:
“The attention of the Kwara Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (KOPAN) has been drawn to a viral publication on the social media indicating that our association, KOPAN, and ASKOMP have declared coverage blackout against the Nigeria Police and the State Government.

“We hereby want to set the record straight by informing the general populace that this is not true. KOPAN has not, for any reason at all, taken any decision to abdicate her very important role of informing and educating the people about Police and government activities in the state.

“While acknowledging that an injury to one is an injury to all, we are not unaware that this fracas is between media practitioners in the state and would like to see an amicable settlement soon.

“It is however appalling that politicians are already cashing in on this discord to score cheap political goals.”
