Man buried grandchild alive in Bauchi, arrested by Police

A 50 years old man has been arrested in Bauchi for burying his day-old grandchild alive in Toro Local government area.

According to a statement, made by Bauchi state Police spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, the man’s 17 year old daughter Hafsat Bawada of Rimin Zayam in Toro local government area of Bauchi put to bed on September 14, at about 2:00 pm in the afternoon.

She told the police that her father, that same day, took the male child and buried him at the back of his house.

“She said that her father, Bawada Audu, seized the child and buried the baby behind his house. Upon receipt of this report, Police operatives went to the said address and exhumed the corpse of the baby, she was rushed to a general hospital where the child was certified dead by a medical doctor”.

“When asked who impregnated her, she said one Danjuma Malam Uba had carnal knowledge of her sometime early 2020, however, the man fled the village upon knowing she is pregnant.”

“The corpse was released to the village head of Rimin Ziyam for burial, and the suspect was arrested and confessed to the crime, he is currently in Police custody and will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed, “Wakil said.
