A frontline traditionalist, Yeye Olokun Ajesikemi Omolara, has identified social media as the root cause for the ongoing conflict between some Muslims and traditional adherents in the state stressing that the two religions had co-existed amicably for a very long time.

In an exclusive interview with News Hub Mag! in Ilorin, the traditionalist stressed that, “the social media amplified the whole misunderstanding. Before now, the two religions (Islam and Isese) have been cohabitating peacefully. Then all of sudden everything just changed and this is largely due to social media. Social media really caused a lot of havoc on this issue.

“I will also blame the two religions for retaliation. We are supposed to be one, if not for anything, at least, for the sake of the language we speak.”

Reacting to the case of Abdulazeez Adegbọla popularly known as Tani Olohun who is presently in detention over defamation, Yeye Ajesikemi called for amicable settlement.

While expressing her belief in the Nigeria judicial system, she charged the adherents of the two religions to embrace peace and solve the matter amicably.

“My message to everyone is to let peace reign, we should learn how to tolerate one another. What is religion without humanity? Every religion without humanity is nonsense, we should learn how to love and respect an individual’s differences.

Court remands Tani Olorun for 50 days

“Tani Olohun is our brother, we cannot deny him, that’s why I am calling for a round table peace talk on how to resolve these issues. Government is on top of the game and we plead with the government to temper justice with mercy”

The traditionalist however hinted that although the matter is already in court, the opportunity for out of court settlement can still be explored if all parties are willing and open to peace talks. “This issue can really be settled out of court if everyone is open to it,” she stressed.
